Rutledge Avenue

To break from colors, patterns, and textures for a moment, I'd like to talk about something else for a moment.   Yesterday I was informed of some people and their opinions, who weren't necessarily very positive or constructive either.  Little moments like this just serve to remind me that first, I will never understand people (and that is okay), and secondly::

I will never make everyone happy and that is okay.  Besides, I'd much rather push the limits of my career than remain completely static.

On to today's ensemble!  I've been obsessing over these pink TOMS, but since they recently added a lavender version to the collection and cannot decide which ones I want!  Oh such trivial decisions.  Bright shoes need a bright outfit ;)

Council Street

It's a little gloomy with some SUPER cloud coverage outside, so cool, but bright colors are in order.  A bow-tie blouse, polka dot high-waist skirt, (some bright pink nail polish!) and a few Indian accents are perfect for work, and make the day that much more fun. :)

Stripes and Brights.  Is there really a better combination??  I'll tell you: NO.  This black and white striped skirt will go with ANYTHING, especially cobalt, emerald, canary yellow, peachy pink, cherry, maroon, periwinkle, etc. - I could go on forever.  With some light, yet classic, jewelry, this is a perfect ensemble for summer.

for the beach

While many of you will be enjoying the sun (and hopefully sand) on this Memorial Day, I will unfortunately be working :(  Oh the price of working in the tourism department!  But it will be a beautiful day nonetheless, and I am thrilled that I work in such a great city with such wonderful people.  So y'all make sure and enjoy the day - and will someone get a tan for me?

for the beach

Oh the beach has been calling my name ALL week!  Unfortunately, I can't get there until Sunday, but it will be well worth the wait (you hear me weather gods!  I'll be getting a tan! No clouds!)
This retro bikini is to die for.  Black bathing suits are my absolute favorite, and the high-cut and bandeau pieces with white accents gives it enough flair to be interesting, but not over-the-top, and wearable for multiple occasions (yes there are many bikini occasions!).  Basic accessories also jazz this this up even more, and make it so versatile.

Isle of Palms

Yesterday, I attended my first meeting (informal though) concerning a new exhibit, specifically the research and people behind the information.  It was fascinating!!  I was in complete awe of the tidbits of information within an historic persons diaries from which we can glean so much!  (the big red "L" is definitely flashing on my forehead right now)  And it's crazy to see the process of taking those bits and pieces, and adapting and interpreting them so that normal people/tourists can understand the significance of the history.  I cannot wait to officially assemble my own exhibit.  I love my job :)

Moving on - I cannot get enough of this dress.  A seashell print?!?  Next pay-day, this dress will be on its way to me.  Black and silver accessories allow the focus to stay on the dress and print, but brown would have worked in the place of black also.

Anchors Away

While I'm not normally a J. Crew fan, this dress has stolen my heart.  With fun heels, and this fantastic tote, this may truly be one of my favorite ensembles.  And I do realize that these sunglasses are expensive. However, I believe that a good pair of designer sunglasses can last a lifetime, and then some (and I speak from experience).

I don't want to jinx myself, but this has been a really great week so far (two days, I know, but they were great!), and I hope this continues into everyday from here on.  Charleston is such a beautiful city and there is so much to discover here each day, no matter how long you have lived here.

vacationing in Mexico

Allow me to deviate from the norm for just a bit; I really wish I was on vacation in Mexico right now.  SO BAD.  On some white sandy beach with bright shops and colorful restaurants just off the beach, and clear blue water frothing at its' brim.  Strawberry daiquiris, rainbow sun-brellas, a good book, and not a cloud in sight.
Oh, one day soon I will be wearing this there.  Just not quite soon enough!

Gibbes Street

As my obsession with little blue dresses continues, this boat-neck dress is a great addition to the collection.  Bright gold accents, and adorable cork wedges polish off a lovely way to jump into Monday.

rainy day

Clouds and rain and gloom and doom are keeping the sun away this week.  Here is a dark and cozy ensemble to accompany the weather and a good book or nap.  Happy Friday!

A little Missoni inspired dress with gold accents.  And a cut-out in the back of the dress to keep things interesting ;)
P.S. - Grey's Anatomy season finale tonight!!! SO excited!

Lenwood Street

Now we all know how much I love navy, but I must confess something else;  I'm obsessed with eyelet fabrics and strapless dresses.  Thus, this little number from Old Navy is the answer to all my prayers, wishes, and dreams!  With simple and classic accessories, this ensemble can go to work, brunch, on a date, to the movies, shopping, to the beach, etc.

Meeting Street

Today is a day for sky-high wedges.  I normally try to stay away from 4+" shoes as they just aren't practical for everyday wear, but wedges (especially brown strappy ones) are the exception.  With a blue dress, my favorite Modalu bag, and some nautical accessories, this is easily one of my favorite looks.

Polka dots anyone?  Still nasty weather here, but navy, gold, and pink can always cure any grey sky blues.  This is a big week for me, so wish me luck!

Rainy day

Well, so much for laying out by the pool today.  The rain is coming down, but it sure is wonderful.  A great t-shirt dress is perfect to accompany a trench and hunter boots for a rainy day.  Have a great weekend!

Bedons Alley

A navy dress is appropriate for all seasons, and all events.  Here is one good for working and walking all day, but change out the shoes and belt for some sparkle, and you're good for going out for the evening.  Happy Saturday!

Legare Street

Kelly green and light blue are definitely best together.  Add a few shimmery, colorful, and basic accessories, and you've got a great ensemble perfect for summer, and especially for traipsing around Charleston.

Orange Street

My favorite white skirt again :)  I just cannot get enough of this wardrobe staple.  Perhaps another white skirt or dress will have to find its' way into my closet.  With bright spring accessories (purse, watch, and makeup from Target!), this skirt is is suitable for ANY situation.

Atlantic Street

I recently purchased this white skirt, and I have been OBSESSED with it ever since.  White, knee-length, flat waist-band, reasonably priced, and POCKETS!- what's not to love!?!  I realize that neons are the 'it' color this spring/summer, but white is timeless and will work with any color, pattern, textures, etc.  My favorite combination is white and cobalt or navy blue (ya'll know I LOVE my nautical looks!).  Happy Tuesday!

New Street

Happy Monday!  Today's ensemble is a little earthy (green ruffles, branch bobby pins, and Indian jewelry) with a few preppy accents (rainbow wedges, cateye sunglasses, and hot pink nail polish).  I love mixing themes, but there truly is a fine line between complimentary accessories, and clashing.  So here's to putting thought into accessorizing!

weekend wear

Today is most certainly a day for enjoying the sun and a good book by the pool (potential rain clouds on the horizon make me a little hesitant to drive all the way out to the beach).  While I normally stick to black swimwear, this festive little Havana bikini just steals my heart.
Grab your sunblock and enjoy the sun!!

Savage Street

TGIF!!!!  Even though I work Saturdays too.  This has been a pretty great week (despite having a group of 120 3rd graders come through the museum!), and I am excited to see what next week holds for me.  Here's to a lot of sunshine and successful research!
P.S.  This little shell ring holds a very special place in my heart as it is the latest birthday present from my love.  It is a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Water Street

I realize that this looks like a vacation outfit, but when you live in Charleston where the temperature has already reached 85+ degrees, this becomes work wear.
Also, I've been 'wearing' this green watch so much lately, I think I am going to have to help it find its' way to my real wrist this weekend. ;)

St. Michael's Alley

I've got this morning off, and I imagine this is the perfect ensemble for strolling South of Broad Street.  Have a lovely day!!!
