bluegrass spring

Since the weatherman is calling for rain today, here is an ensemble inspired by the sky.

festive brights

I'm fully aware that I recently confessed to not loving super bright colors.  However, weddings are a different story.  One of my cousins is getting married at the end of the month, and it will be a wonderful beach wedding.  This, of course, calls for colors and festive prints.  Here is a possible ensemble for such an event.

P.S. - I am DYING over these yellow wedges.  But I can handle a yellow shoe for the entire summer?? Only time will tell.

prints

I'm going to be honest and admit that about ten minutes after I created this ensemble, I ran to my Target and grabbed this dress.  Not only was it the last one there in this print, but it was in my size! However, the experience was slightly marred due to everyone's strange looks at me, because I am currently suffering from allergy face, which looks a little like this.  Finally meeting with an allergy specialist next week, therefore, I must refuse all anti-histamines until then. BOO.  Fortunately, this dress will help me fight off allergy face :)

colorful neutrals

In running news, I cannot keep a routine.  Therefore, this will be a more sporadic journey progressing as it feels right.  I don't believe in forcing change and new experiences.
It must feel right.
So yesterday morning was beautiful; sunny, warm but cool in the shade, a slight breeze.  All in all, the perfect morning to be outside running.
Accomplished: 2.3 miles in 30 minutes, week 2 day 1 Cto5K

Today's Ensemble:  As much as I love colors, I have never been much a fan of super brights and neons.  That being said, muted colors and interesting shades and combinations are far more fascinating (and flattering) to me.

Spring in Kentucky

Had I my way, I would be on a plane to the Bluegrass state at this very moment.  But since that isn't quite feasible at the moment, I'll have to do with planning what I would wear if I was there.  So, here's to good ol' UK with an homage to bluegrass, the Native American culture, nature, and SPRING TIME!

date night.

Now I'm aware that this is not an everyday look, but when date night needs a little extra glamour, this is the perfect combination of classic black and elegant gold to add a little decadence to an evening with your honey.  :)

summer blue & coral

In following the theme of be adventurous, I experienced something with which I was v. unfamiliar yesterday.   I locked my keys in my car.

*cue forehead smack*

For the second time in my life, and the first time in almost six years, I locked myself out of my car, and my keys inside it.  Luckily, I was parked outside the car dealership about to get my oil change.  This experience will be including among those designated as 'adventure' and 'something different', not only because of the (ridiculous) incident itself, but for the fact that I am never that lucky! hoorah!

I'll leave you with a coral and blue version of my summer uniform. :)

For the office in the spring time

For the office in the spring time

Old Navy knee length pencil skirt (only available in Canada?!?)

I have always been a huge fan of Old Navy.  The prices are great, the clothes are (generally) v cute, always on point with the seasons trends, yet reasonably priced so that I don't feel guilty buying an entire new wardrobe the following year.  I love these pieces because they're neutral enough to wear with multiple ensembles, yet still v cute and 'user-friendly'.  I especially fancy the sailboat top :)

Here's to a lovely Spring Monday!

Inspired by:

Jasmine of An Experiment in Poverty!  After seeing her fantastic St. Patrick's Day manicure, I decided to go for the gold green, and go all out for the holiday on my nails.

Here is the inspiration:

And here is how mine turned out:

I loved her use of brighter, 'spring-ier' greens (hello awesome accent nail!), but I decided to go a little more grassy.
Thank you Jasmine for inspiring me to be so bold!

In honor of St. Patrick's Day....

It's a Green-Theme-Pinterest day!!!!!!
While I will not be able to, I would LOVE to wear all any of these things to celebrate 'my people'.

Running Update:  Or maybe I should say running fail; no such luck for this bonita today, because somehow the alarm clock did not get set.  Therefore, this lady woke up at, wait for it..............8:30.
 *cue grumpy-ass face*
No way to start working by 10:00.  Therefore, a lesson has been learned and shall not be repeated.  However, when I started Couch2 5k, I knew that I would have to be flexible about it because the minute I attempt to make strict, non-negotiable plans, the shit hits the fan and reminds me to embrace life as it happens for that is the best way to enjoy it.  I suppose this is my body's way of telling me that I needed that extra 2.5 hours of sleep.  So I will not dwell on the negative of this, but shake it off and remember that there is always tomorrow and to find happiness somewhere in each day.  Wooo!

Oh, how I miss riding my bicycle around town.

Biking will become far more regular once this is purchased and strapped onto the back of my car.

I swear I'm not a slow reader...

but it took me nearly three months to finish this book:

And it was worth (nearly) every minute.  A wonderful work of historical fiction from the perspective of the infamous female (and last) pharaoh of Egypt, it makes the reader sympathize with the challenger of the Roman empire and possibly question her portrayal in (biased) Roman literature.  The book itself is HUGE and the pages are bible-page-thin, so it is A LOT to absorb.  That being said however, I did enjoy it immensely and look forward to reading more by Margaret George (ahem, The Autobiography of Henry VIII, with notes by his fool Will Somers, which will probably take another three months).

Running Update:  It was pretty gross outside this morning, so instead of braving it I went to the gym and rode a bike. At least I was able to re-do week 1 day 1.  So here's to sunny skies on Wednesday morning!

Monday Mani

These past few months, I've become (a little) obsessed with nail polish and keeping my nails neat and presentable.  While my polish collection has grown significantly, the rainbow has expanded too.  In keeping with the theme of being adventurous and embracing the unusual, this weekend I painted my nails purple.  Bright purple.

China Glaze, Spontaneous (an appropriate title I do believe)

Also following the theme so far, I will be checking out a new-to-me coffee shop downtown called Hope & Union this afternoon.  I've read about it so much on this blog that I cannot resist stopping by to experience this magical place.

On another note, I've got exciting news.  The lil bee is now following me on Instagram! I'm so excited about this because I have admired, not only her blog, but her as a person for a few years now.  And while it's sad that she is not currently blogging (for a very good reason), I'm thrilled that she's still tweeting and on Instagram because she has a wonderful way of turning a crummy event or situation into a learning or extremely funny experience which I really admire and respect.

Anchors Away

I may be obsessed with a few things.  Two of which are Pinterest and anything nautical.
That being said, here are a few of my favorite anchor pins from my Pinterest.

Running: day 2

When I woke up this morning, it was raining.  Not good for this "runner".  But I decided to wait it out before scrambling for an alternative workout (indoor/stationary bike?  treadmills are the tools of Satan).  And luck would have it; the rain let up and the sun came out.  (cue humidity)

But despite the steam rising from the pavement, it was great.  I am lucky enough to be in an area where some of the natural landscape still exists, and the marshes really are beautiful.

And since I'm not really one to take pictures during this morning journey, here is what Topaz does while waiting for me to get back.

P.S. - yesterday's purple eyeliner was definitely a hit. :)

embracing change

Yesterday I ran.

I ran two miles in just under 25 minutes.
I ran because I could not fathom any other way to release my anger, tension, and negative attitude.
And it worked.

Today I am wearing purple eyeliner.

And tomorrow I will run more than two miles.

From here on out, I will make a strong effort to step out of my comfort zone and be more adventurous.
